Chris Brown is still in Los Angeles awaiting his upcoming court date and police are now telling media sources that additional charges may be filed against him when the case is presented to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The 19-year-old has also canceled his scheduled appearances during All-Star Weekend.
He had been tapped to introduce the players with Shaquille O’Neal before tip-off at Phoenix’s US Airways Center.
The basketball fan had also been planning to play Friday in the annual All-Star Celebrity Game, part of the weekend-long festivities.
As reported, Chris was charged with one count felony criminal threats against Rihanna on Sunday and is expected to attend court on March 5th. Chris has hired popular defense attorney, Mark Geragos to represent him.
Singer Chris Brown, who had been sought by authorities for violence felony battery, turned himself in Sunday evening and was booked and released on $50,000 bail. However, police say additional charges may be filed against him when the case is presented to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. A press release from the Los Angeles Police Department said the 19-year-old R&B singer/dancer/actor and a woman were in a vehicle in the Hancock Park neighborhood early Sunday around 12:30am when they began arguing.
Police say Brown and the woman got out of the car and the argument escalated and became physical.
Officers say Brown wasn't at the scene when police arrived. They did say the woman identified Brown as her attacker. However, the police won't reveal the identity of the woman. The obvious speculation is that it's his girlfriend, singer Rihanna. "The identity of the victim will not be released," said Officer April Harding. "Any victim who's involved in a domestic violence incident is entitled to confidentiality."
Ironically, in a 2007 interview with Giant magazine, Brown said his mother had been physically abused by his stepfather.
"He used to hit my mom," he was quoted as saying in the Giant article. "He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself. I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, 'I'm just gonna go crazy on him one day ... ' I hate him to this day."
In the same interview, he said he had studied martial arts, which he used to defend himself once in a fight with several classmates. Brown said after his mother broke up the fight, he urged her not to go to the police.
"Don't go to no cops pressing no charges," he reported begging her, "like we don't do that in the hood."
Brown and Rihanna both cancelled their appearances on Sunday night's Grammy Awards show.
The absence of the two stars made for a dramatic last-minute change in the production of the show. Fortunately veteran soul man Al Green was available.
"I was in the shower and didn't have anything on, and they said, 'Whatever you have, throw it in the bag and come on,' " Green said backstage about getting the call to perform. He said he was not given an explanation of the last-minute invite. "We had two hours and 40 minutes to rehearse, come back onstage and change and then go out and do it."
Former Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) officer Johannes Mehserle, who SHOT OSCAR J. GRANT III, appeared in the East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday in Minden, Nevada.
Mehserle waived extradition to California and was being held without bail on a warrant charging homicide. According to reports, Mehserle was in Nevada because he feared for his safety after death threats were made against him.
Grant’s family has filed a $25 million legal claim against BART, signaling an intention to sue for damages. The family’s attorney, John Burris, said that he was pleased to hear of Mehserle’s arrest.
MediaTakeOut.com has learned that earlier today rapper Kanye West and his assistant were arrested for vandalism. According to TMZ, the platinum selling rapper asked one of the photographers to stop filming him while at LAX airport in Los Anegels. And that's when things went left.
Here's how TMZ describes what popped off:
[The Cameraman named Erik] noticed a still photog taking several pictures of Kanye West. Erik says West rushed the photog and grabbed his camera. A struggle ensued and the still guy was screaming, "Police, Help!" Erik says Kanye then took the still camera and threw it on the ground, breaking it into pieces.
Erik then went over to Kanye, his camera rolling, when Kanye's assistant walked up to him, realized Erik was taping, and said, "Give me the camera, give me the camera." Erik responded that he had a press pass and had a right to shoot. The assistant then gabbed the camera, ripped off the mic and viewfinder and then grabbed the cam and smashed it to the ground.
Erik says Kanye then tried to leave to board his plane, but cops stopped him before he got to security. The cops then interviewed Erik, the still photog, Kanye and his assistant..
This is where it gets crazy. The cops asked Erik if he videotaped the incident and Erik said he had. That's when Kanye lunged toward him and said, "Give me the fu***ng videotape." Cops had to restrain Kanye as he tried coming at Erik.
Kanye and his assistant have reportedly been arrested and booked for vandalism. We'll post the tape as soon as we can...
In even more sad news today, Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio passed away just minutes ago in an East Cleveland hospital. She suffered a brain aneurysm while driving yesterday and was admitted to the hospital for care. And just shortly ago, brain hemorrhaging caused her death. While reports earlier today incorrectly reported she had died, it is now official as it has been reported by the hospital and her family. According to the official statement from the East Cleveland hospital and Tubbs family:
Tubbs Jones, 58, died at 6:12 p.m. after suffering a brain hemorrhage that caused an aneurysm that burst and left her with limited brain function, spokeswoman Eileen Sheil said “Throughout the course of the day and into this evening, Congresswoman Tubbs Jones’ medical condition declined,” Sheil said in a statement from the clinic and Tubbs Jones’ family.
She was a widow and leaves behind one son. Congresswoman Tubbs Jones was the first black woman to ever represent the state of Ohio in Congress, she held super-delegate status at the Democratic National Convention. Tubbs Jones, 58, served as a Cuyahoga County judge and prosecutor before becoming a U/S/ Representative. She has served five terms in Congress and was expected to easily win her sixth in November. She was also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and was one of the greatest leaders in our political system. She was also one of my personal inspirations as a leader and as my Soror. Definitely sad news for everyone. R.I.P. Ms. Jones.
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's police commissioner said Monday that four officers will be fired and four others disciplined for their roles in the beatings of three shooting suspects, an encounter that was captured on videotape and drew widespread outrage.
Another eight officers who had physical contact with the suspects will undergo additional training on the department's policies concerning the use of force, Commissioner Charles Ramsey said. He said the police department made the disciplinary decisions after reviewing frames from enhanced tape of a video shot by a television news helicopter on May 5. The video, shot by WTXF-TV, shows the suspects being pulled from their car on the side of the road and groups of officers kicking, punching and beating the men. A total of 19 officers — 18 city police and one transit officer — were involved. Two of the officers being fired are relatively new to the force and can be terminated immediately, Ramsey said. Two others are being suspended without pay for 30 days with intent to dismiss. Three other officers are being suspended and one sergeant is being demoted. A criminal investigation is continuing. Police said they had been pursuing the car in connection with a triple shooting. The three men — Brian Hall, 23, Pete Hopkins, 19, and Dwayne Dyches, 24, all of Philadelphia — have been charged with attempted murder and related counts stemming from the shooting. Their attorneys have said they had nothing to do with it. One of Dyches' attorneys said he suffered a welt on his head the size of a baseball and that one of his legs was seriously injured. All three of the shooting suspects are black. Ramsey has denied allegations that the beatings were racially motivated and said at least one officer involved is black. The beating occurred at the same time police were conducting an intense manhunt for a suspect in the slaying two days earlier of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski, but Ramsey said Monday that there was no indication that any of the officers thought the suspect was among the three men in the car.
NEW YORK - Three detectives were acquitted of all charges Friday in the 50-shot killing of an unarmed groom-to-be on his wedding day, a case that put the NYPD at the center of another dispute involving allegations of excessive firepower.
Justice Arthur Cooperman delivered the verdict in a Queens courtroom packed with spectators, including victim Sean Bell's fiancee and parents, and at least 200 people gathered outside the building.
The verdict provoked an outpouring of emotions: Bell's fiancee immediately walked out of the room. His mother cried.
Outside the courthouse, which was surrounded by scores of police officers, many in the crowd began weeping as news of the verdict said. Others were enraged, swearing and screaming "Murderers! Murderers!" or "KKK!"
Bell, a 23-year-old black man, was killed in a hail of gunfire outside a seedy strip club in Queens on Nov. 25, 2006 — his wedding day — as he was leaving his bachelor party with two friends.
