Why I’m Giddy about the VP Debate...
“Sarah says she wants to prepare for a career in television broadcasting by majoring in telecommunications and political science. It is no wonder that she has also been recognized by ‘Who’s Who?’ since she has displayed her leadership in all areas, from academics to student politics to athletics… Ladies and gentlemen, contestant no. 8, Sarah Heath.”
Yes, this is real footage. What is up with the TRUMPET player?? Whackness, at an all time high...Kinda of like the Republican campaign...
If THEY get elected, I'm moving to Canada...
Obama Wins Debate!!
NY Times Editorial: “Obama Dominated Economic Discussions”
Mark Halperin of “The Page” : Obama A-, McCain B-
Time’s Joe Klein - Narrow Victory for Obama
CNN Poll: Obama Wins 51% to to McCain’s 38%
Who Did the Best Job In the Debate?
Obama 51%
McCain 38%
Who Would Better Handle Economy?
Obama 58%
McCain 37%
Who Would Better Handle Iraq?
Obama 52%
McCain 47%
Democratic and Republican Pollsters who conducted focus groups discovered that Obama won each time.
Check out Republican Pollster Frank Luntz having to concede on FOX NEWS that Obama won, based on all of the independent voters who participated in his focus group:
CBS Instant Polls:
40% of uncommitted voters who watched the debate tonight thought Barack Obama was the winner. 22% thought John McCain won. 38% saw it as a draw.
68% of these voters think Obama would make the right decision
about the economy. 41% think McCain would.
49% of these voters think Obama would make the right decisions about Iraq. 55% think McCain would.
To keep this in perspective, I’m pretty sure you can visit many right leaning websites that declared McCain the winner and left leaning websites that declared Obama the winner. However, the links I’ve provided go to pretty reliable sources that aren’t necessarily known to be leaning either way (except for Fox News which had the pollster declaring Obama the winner - much to their dismay).
The only thing that I’m pretty sure of is that OHN reader fineazhell1 will comment that he/she still is undecided/wants more specifics from Obama. *whispers* just say you’re going to vote for McCain and keep it movin…
ETA: Check out blogger Andrew Sullivan’s opinion on the fact that McCain didn’t seem to want to look directly at Obama…. do you agree with his assessment?
The more it sinks in, the more I think Obama actually knocked it out of the park last night. He is, in some ways, the inverse McCain. McCain is all drama and explosions but then … the air smells like damp, finished fireworks smoke. Obama seems calm and cautious but then … you realize he cleaned your clock.
A few more morning after thoughts: the body language matters. McCain couldn’t look at Obama as if he is offended by even having to share a stage with him. But Obama engaged him directly several times. Check the photo below. Even when shaking hands, McCain looks away. This is, in fact, a sign of insecurity.
Keeo it movin' OB!!

Sign of The Times: Artist Builds Temple of Science
Jonathon Keats, designer of the petri dish God, built The Atheon to get people thinking about what a scientific religion (or religious science?) would look and feel like.
Keats' conception of that idea took shape as a two-story building complete with stained-glass windows patterned after cosmic microwave background radiation and a liturgy based on the sounds of the Big Bang. The Atheon opened Sept. 27 at the Judah L. Magnes Museum in Berkeley, California.
But, could science replace religion?
The question has intrigued both rationalists frustrated at the persistence of what they see as superstitious dogma, and religious believers — as well as all-purpose skeptics — unwilling to promote science, with its mixed and messy history, to a position of absolute authority.
Keats doesn't claim to take sides, but says he just wants to give people a chance to think. In December, he'll host a public discussion at the Atheon, with people invited to bring their own models. "It's important that this Atheon not be seen as the only model. It's one possibility. The best thing would be for people to engage these questions, and consider what form religion could take as science."
Sigh....time is winding up

Palin Lies Yet Again...Pathological One Ain't She?
"I wanted to meet you for many years," Ms. Palin told Mr. Peres, according to an aide to the president. "The only flag at my office is an Israeli flag," she was quoted as saying, "and I want you to know and I want Israelis to know that I am a friend."
Gosh, she really lays it on thick, don't she?
Of course, the claim is ridiculous on its face. No one would believe for a second that the governor of an American state wouldn't have a U.S. flag and the flag of her state in her office. And, to no one's surprise, she absolutely does.
Why she would say she didn't is another matter. Confusion? Tongue-tied? Star-struck? Pathological liar? Deep need to glom on in any way possible to any connection with anybody important who might somehow wander into this political Black Widow's web?
There are any number of explanations. But none of the good ones can quite capture the desperation that motivates a lightweight like Palin to gush to the President of Israel about the tiny, five inch paper Israeli flag she has casually wedged into a crack in the windowpane of her office being "the only flag at my office."
This is dumber than telling people you've "visited" Ireland when your plane stopped there for refueling.
Next thing you know, she'll be telling people she invented the BlackBerry.
UPDATE: Yes, yes, yes! She could have meant the only foreign flag. We know that. No need to rub your hands raw over it.
Honestly, though, if you're making your debut on the world stage and you're given a chance to spend a few, precious moments with the President of Israel, do you really spend your time gushing about the freebie or gift shop novelty flag from his country??
He Messed It All Up, Bigtime! McPain In Action
KATIE COURIC: And, Bob, I understand that John McCain actually floated an alternative plan. What can you tell us about that?
BOB ORR We're told at the White House Senator McCain offered an alternative plan that would include fewer regulations and more corporate tax breaks for businesses, kind of a private solution. But we're also told those ideas angered and surprised Democrats like banking chairman Chris Dodd who now says he thinks the White House summit was more of a political stunt for McCain.
No They Didn't: Obama On Soul Train??
So I’m over on GlobalGrind.com when I see a title saying Obama on a Soul Train Line… What do you think? Is it him?

BLACK HISTORY SPOTLIGHT: HIRAM REVELS
HIRAM REVELS (1822-1901) was the first black U.S. senator.
Born free in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Revels was the son of a free father of mixed heritage and a black mother who was later emancipated. Since all blacks were forbidden from learning to read and write, Revels was secretly taught by a black woman.
When he was 15, his family moved to Lincolnton, North Carolina, where he worked as a barber in his brother’s shop. In 1844, he moved to Indiana and began studying at Beech Grove Seminary, a Quaker school. It was during this time that Revels became involved with the teachings of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, a significant religious and educational force in the black community. The following year, Revels began studying for the ministry in Drake County, Ohio. He was ordained a minister of the AME Church later that year and was an elder in 1849.
In the early 1850s, Revels married Phoeba A. Bass, and they raised six daughters. Revels began preaching in several states, and he later recalled, “At times, I met with a great deal of opposition. I was imprisoned in Missouri in 1854 for preaching the gospel to Negroes, though I was never subjected to violence.” He attended KnoxCollege in Galesburg, Illinois, and in 1857, he became principal of a private school in Baltimore, Maryland.
When the Civil War began, Revels helped organized Union regiments and recruit soldiers of the first black regiment in Maryland. He established a school for freedmen in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1863 and worked with the U.S. Provost Marshall to handle the affairs of former slaves. In 1865, Revels joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, which offered more opportunities for his work in the South. He and his family settled in Natchez, Mississippi, where he founded schools for black children. Following the Civil War, the Reconstruction Act of 1867 required Southern states to write new constitutions permitting blacks to vote and hold public office. They ratified the Fourteenth Amendment, and on July 28, 1868, blacks were officially recognized as citizens of the United States.
Later that year, Revels was appointed for a term on the Natchez City Board of Aldermen. During the first session of the Mississippi Legislature in January 1868, Revels was asked to open the session with prayer. According to John R. Lynch, a black political figure from Natchez, “That prayer— one of the most impressive and eloquent prayers that had ever been delivered in the Senate Chamber—made Revels a United States Senator. He made a profound impression upon all who heard him. It impressed those who heard it that Revels was not only a man of great natural ability but that he was also a man of superior attainments.” The following year, Lynch encouraged Revels to enter as a candidate for state senator, representing Adams County. Revels accepted the nomination at the Republican Caucus in December 1869.
In January 1870, the Mississippi Legislature elected Revels as a U.S. Senator 81 to 15 to fill the last year of the unexpired term of one of the state’s two senators. Revels’ election was met with opposition from Southern Democrats who cited the DRED SCOTT DECISION which was considered by many to have been a central cause of the Civil War. They argued that no black man was a citizen prior to the 14th Amendment’s ratification, and that since election to the Senate required nine years’ prior citizenship, Revels claimed he could not be seated, having been a citizen by law for only two. Supporters of Revels countered that the Dred Scott Decision only applied to blacks who were of pure African blood; Revels was of black and white ancestry. They said he was therefore exempt and had been a citizen all his life. The New York Herald predicted Revels would never be allowed to take his Senate seat, but he was seated on February 25, 1870, and he held office until March 3, 1871, becoming the first black U.S. senator. During his short tenure, he introduced several bills, presented a number of petitions and served on the Committee on the District of Columbia and the Committee on Education. After his term in the Senate, Revels became president of Alcorn College from 1871 until 1873.
Revels took a leave of absence from Alcorn to serve as Mississippi’s interim Secretary of State. He reentered the ministry as the pastor of the Holly Springs, Mississippi ME Church. On Nov. 6, 1875, Revels wrote a letter to President Ulysses S. Grant denouncing Mississippi Governor Adelbert Ames and the CARPETBAGGERS for manipulating the black vote for personal benefit and for keeping wartime hatreds alive:
Since reconstruction, the masses of my people have been, as it were, enslaved in mind by unprincipled adventurers, who, caring nothing for country, were willing to stoop to anything no matter how infamous, to secure power to themselves, and perpetuate it….. My people have been told by these schemers, when men have been placed on the ticket who were notoriously corrupt and dishonest, that they must vote for them; that the salvation of the party depended upon it; that the man who scratched a ticket was not a Republican. This is only one of the many means these unprincipled demagogues have devised to perpetuate the intellectual bondage of my people…. The bitterness and hate created by the late civil strife has, in my opinion, been obliterated in this state, except perhaps in some localities, and would have long since been entirely obliterated, were it not for some unprincipled men who would keep alive the bitterness of the past, and inculcate a hatred between the races, in order that they may aggrandize themselves by office, and its emoluments, to control my people, the effect of which is to degrade them.
In 1876, Revels returned to Alcorn and served there until his retirement in 1882. For a while, he served as editor of the Southwestern Christian Advocate and taught theology at Shaw College, now known as Rust College. Revels died January 16, 1901, of astroke while attending a church conference.

Unexplained: Ghostly image caught at gym
A motion-sensitive security camera has captured ghostly images at a Kansas gym. Wooooo....
Unprepared
ANCHOR: As for the massive Wall Street bailout McCain insists it have...
JSM: Oversight that is effective and transparent. We need people like Warren Buffet and Mike Bloomberg and Mitt Romney to have an oversight of this. We can’t put that responsibility in the hands of one person.
ANCHOR: The crunch question. Would you vote for it as it’s presently constructed?
JSM: I have not had a chance to see it in writing so I have to examine that.
And remember, the plan is only three pages long.
Update: Just to be clear, this was an interview given Tuesday, September 23, to NBC in Cleveland, Ohio
Desperate
As we draw closer and closer to this year’s election, the McCain camp keeps finding crazier and crazier distractions to avoid discussing issues with the American people.
A “maverick” by definition is irresponsible. A “maverick” is rushed and careless in his judgment. A “maverick” is unstable. Indeed, a “maverick” is a self-professed gambler who swings for the fences . . . damn the consequences.
What has become increasingly obvious throughout this campaign is McCain’s habit for reckless behavior. Sadly, in a media consumed with the “sport” of politics, but not the issues, McCain has attempted to divert our attention away from one disturbing quality of the “character” he likes to run on . . .
That McCain lives DOWN to the political caricature painted for and by him. . . That his decisions and actions have more to do with sustaining his cherished “maverick” nickname than actually solving our nation’s problems.
Trainwreck
What's the difference between George W. Bush and Sarah Palin? Lipstick. I see why her campaign wants her to STAY AWAY from the media...

Keep Obama In Your Prayers...
Charges are pending against a man who drove up to the security perimeter around Sen. Barack Obama’s home in Kenwood with a gun on the floor of his car this morning, police said.
The man also had a bulletproof vest in the car, sources said.
The man, in his 30s, was stopped by a Chicago Police officer assigned to the U.S. Secret Service security detail at about 5 a.m. today, Chicago Police said. He had a rambling conversation with the officer who stopped him.
After being told to leave the area, the man drove away but he returned. The officer then searched his car and recovered a handgun, police said.
Secret Service spokesman Malcolm Wiley said the man “did not breach any security perimeters” and was a block away from the senator's home. The man did not direct any threats toward Obama, nor did he “utter any threatening language,” Wiley said.
Sources said the man inquired about getting a job, spoke about how he was a victim of crime and discussed how he was happy that an African-American was running for president. The man, a convicted felon, is African-American.
There are “Do Not Enter” and “Authorized Personnel Only” signs posted around that security area, a Chicago Police spokesman said. The outer security perimeter is manned by the Secret Service and Chicago police, Wiley said.
Greed and irresponsibility
The era of greed and irresponsibility on Wall Street and in Washington has created a financial crisis as profound as any we have faced since the Great Depression.
Congress and the President are debating a bailout of our financial institutions with a price tag of $700 billion or more in taxpayer dollars. We cannot underestimate our responsibility in taking such an enormous step.
Whatever shape our recovery plan takes, it must be guided by core principles of fairness, balance, and responsibility to one another.
Please sign on to show your support for an economic recovery plan based on the following:
• No Golden Parachutes -- Taxpayer dollars should not be used to reward the irresponsible Wall Street executives who helmed this disaster.
• Main Street, Not Just Wall Street -- Any bailout plan must include a payback strategy for taxpayers who are footing the bill and aid to innocent homeowners who are facing foreclosure.
• Bipartisan Oversight -- The staggering amount of taxpayer money involved demands a bipartisan board to ensure accountability and oversight.
Show your support and encourage your friends and family to join you:
http://my.barackobama.com/ourplan
The failed economic policies and the same corrupt culture that led us into this mess will not help get us out of it. We need to get to work immediately on reforming the broken government -- and the broken politics -- that allowed this crisis to happen in the first place.
And we have to understand that a recovery package is just the beginning. We have a plan that will guarantee our long-term prosperity -- including tax cuts for 95 percent of families, an economic stimulus package that creates millions of new jobs and leads us towards energy independence, and health care that is affordable to every American.
It won't be easy. The kind of change we're looking for never is.
But if we work together and stand by these principles, we can get through this crisis and emerge a stronger nation.
Thank you,
Barack

So RACISM DOESN'T EXIST, Eh?
"Poll: Barack Obama could lose six percentage points on election day for being black"
Poll: Barack Obama could lose six percentage points on election day for being black
Six percentage points is the price Barack Obama could pay on election day for being black.
That disturbing calculation was found in a groundbreaking new Associated Press-Yahoo News poll conducted with Stanford University which probes the effect of the Democratic presidential candidate's race on his historic campaign for the White House.
"There's a penalty for prejudice, and it's not trivial," Stanford University political scientist Paul Sniderman told the AP.
In a close contest, racism "might be enough to tip the election," Sniderman said.
Still, the Illinois senator seems to be making some headway even with white Americans who don't have much good to say about African-Americans.
Among the white Democrats who think blacks are lazy, or violent, or boastful, two-thirds said they will vote for Obama over Sen. John McCain, a white Republican.
The poll of 2,227 adults was conducted Aug. 27-Sept. 5, and was designed to probe people's racial attitudes and how those attitudes affect voting.
It shows that when it comes to race, there has been some progress in America: Most white people have positive things to say about black people.
Still, pollsters found that a substantial portion of white Americans have very little contact with African-Americans - and many still harbor negative feelings toward them.
Whites also have a rosier view of race relations than blacks. When asked "how much discrimination against blacks" exists, 10% of whites said "a lot" while 57% of blacks said "a lot."
Asked how much of the nation's racial tension is created by blacks, more than a third of whites said "most" or "all."
Meanwhile, nearly three-fouths of the blacks polled said while people have too much influence in U.S. politics.
Also, the perception that voters in their 20s and 30s might go for Obama because they're less racially biased than their parents might be wrong.
The survey found no meaningful differences in the way younger and older whites viewed black people.
But older whites were more likely to say when they really think of blacks than the younger generations.
Not surprisingly, racial prejudice tends to be lowest among college-educated whites living outside the South, the pollsters found.

BILL CLINTON ON THE VIEW: "Hillary Never Wanted To Be VP"
Bill Clinton took a seat on the couch with the ladies of ABC’s The View on Monday for the first time. When asked whether his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, wanted to join Dem. presidential nominee Barack Obama on the Democratic ticket, the former president replied, “Not really, she didn’t.”
“She said that if he asked, I’ll do it because it’s my duty. She loves being a senator for New York and has more freedom to develop her positions on the issues and her things,” he said. He added that while Sen. Joe Biden was a “good choice” to be Obama’s running mate, Sen. Clinton “would have been the best politically”.
Clinton said he’d be surprised if Obama didn’t win, but also spoke admirably of Republican presidential nominee John McCain.
CHRIS ROCK RESPONDS TO CLINTONFollowing his appearance on The View, Bill Clinton visited The Late Show With David Letterman. Fellow guest, actor/comedian Chris Rock remarked, “Boy, is it me or he didn’t want to say the name Barack Obama?” Hilarity ensued.

Mariah Carey: I Enjoy Reading The Bible
The Touch My Body singer - who married singer Nick Cannon earlier this year - admits she rarely has time to sit down and read, but always ensures she has time to read the holy book. She said: "The only book I make time to read is the Bible." Mariah can't even find the time to read when she is on holiday because she is too busy swimming and sunbathing.

They Are Starting The Voter Challenging Ya'LL: Announcing The Launch Of The Voter Suppression Wiki - Learn, Report, Act
But what about the votes that don’t count? What about the systematic attempts to erect barriers between voters and the ballot box? What about voter suppression?
In order to educate, document and mobilize action, I’m excited to introduce the Voter Suppression Wiki.
Inspired by my fellow blogger, rikyrah, at Jack and Jill Politics, plus input from several online and voting rights activists, the purpose of the wiki is to have a central location to coordinate information and action around efforts to suppress the vote in this 2008 election.

Palin Offers An Idea That Obama Has Already Done
From CNN:
Sarah Palin likes to tell voters around the country about how she “put the government checkbook online” in Alaska. On Thursday, Palin suggested she would take that same proposal to Washington.
“We’re going to do a few new things also,” she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. “For instance, as Alaska’s governor, I put the government’s checkbook online so that people can see where their money’s going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C.”
There’s just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online – somebody’s already done it. His name is Barack Obama.
Big up to CNN for calling this fool out.
This is mad annoying. Not only does Sarah Palin know nothing about foreign policy, she doesn’t know the policies of her own damn country, that she wants to lead.
My number one reason for supporting Obama is because of his support for government transparency and tools of civic engagement. His Google For Government Bill became USASpending.gov, and I urge you to go there now. You can see government spending by department, Congressional district and specific contractor. You can see the extent of competition. You can get the data in XML down to the transaction level.
In other words, Sarah Palin is a straight up swagger-jacker.

Amazing: Their house survived Ike, but it's the only one left
All the homes around Warren and Pam Adams' house in Gilchrist, Texas, were destroyed by Hurricane Ike.
Ike's storm surge last week devastated the Bolivar Peninsula town, flattening most of the roughly 200 homes there. The couple's yellow house at the beach -- supported 14 feet off the ground by wooden columns -- was the only house on Gilchrist's Gulf Coast side not to be flattened.
Amazing...
Friday Foolywang: Obama Heckled By "Blacks Against Obama"
(CNN) — Barack Obama's campaign rally in Coral Gables, Florida Friday was interrupted by a group of about 10 African-American protesters holding signs that called themselves, "Blacks Against Obama."
The signs said Obama was for gay marriage and abortion, and said his candidacy was "endorsed by the KKK." Another sign said, "Jesse Jackson hates Obama."
Obama originally said the protesters could stay inside the event, but they were escorted out when they would not stop shouting.
Hmmm...Maybe it was this group:

Q: I want finger waves sooo bad but I’m afraid they are not quite back in style, are they?
A: Girl get your finger waves! Don’t worry about whats not in style, do you!. Its not always about what’s in, its about what looks good on you.
Q: I’ve been getting sew in’s (my natural hair braided) and have noticed growth with my hair when I get it redone every couple months. Is having my hair braided helping or hurting my hair?
A: Weaves do not MAKE your hair grow. They simply create an illusion. Hair growth comes from within, you can achieve this by eating healthy, taking vitamins (GNC makes a good one). Biotin is also a great hair growth supplement. Keeping up with your trims and conditioning treatments is how is you maintain healthy hair… baby your hair, its your beauty!
